This is not something i'm seriously considering right now but most likley in the future and its somthing i've always wanted to know, is getting new pickups like EMGz just as good as getting a new guitar. does it depened on the guitar or not?

In general, I would say no.

If you're using a good guitar....mid range to high mid range, and swap the pups, you'll have a very good axe. Still, a high high end guitar will have characteristics that the lower end one will never have, due to its better tone wood and construction.

If you're dealing with a low end guitar, I would not bother.

If you had an alder Strat, with a bolt-on neck and singlecoils; and replaced the pickups for two active EMGs, it would sound very different. However, it wouldn't sound as heavy as a mahogany Les Paul, with a set neck and EMGs. The wood and construction of the guitar both play a huge role in determining the tone of the guitar.

If your amp is SS, or a low end tube, do not get EMG's.

Good for you. Have a cookie.

But really... there's no cookie. And if there was, you wouldn't get one.
