I'd check out 'Wish you were here' by Pink Floyd, and maybe 'Bad Moon Rising (chord version)' by CCR. They're relatively easy and are great songs to teach you some of the basic chords.
#8
I would suggest starting out with Brown Eyed Girl if you really want easy. There's chords as well as a simple bass line that you can easily learn with some practice. Then move on to Eagles songs. That's what I did when I first got playing. =)

Californication for red hot chili peppers isn't too hard, it's a good practice for starting.

...actual songs are comprised of chords.

If you learn the basic chords you'll start off much faster...I'm also a new player..began about 1.5 months ago and learning the chords have really helped me.

I agree with gurusan. Thanks to learning chords and songs
that use chords, I make my own songs now. And I've only
been playing for about 3 moths now. And I've never paid
for lessons.
And chords sound better and look more impressive when you
put them together.

It won't be as low-sounding as the actual bass. But it's the same idea. It sounds nice and is fun to learn on acoustic, which is what I have, too.

The one by Van Morrison.

Agreed. If you learn just 5 basic open chords you can play a few thousand "actual songs". Not to mention that it helps you learn to listen for notes, find notes, and build stregenth in your fretting hand. Chords aren't just essential, they're required.

I'd reccommend to you and any other new guitarists reading this thread to learn the 5 basic open chords: G, D, C, Am, and E. House of the Rising Sun (The Animals) is a great song for learning them. You'll see your playing grow by leaps and bounds if you learn and master just those 5 chords.

Good luck in your playing and above all else, have fun!

Garou1911's suggestion is really good. I'd go with theirs as well as Brown Eyed Girl. Those chords are pretty much G, D, and C. You can't go wrong with songs like Brown Eyed Girl and House of the Rising Sun. But yeah-- "actual songs"=chords. -blink-

ok, you guys won me over. im gopnna practice my chords, but im still going to learn the song part.
