Dave Matthews Band. I guess they're talented, but I find that every one of their fans seems to be a big tool with a popped collar and backwards Polo hat.

YES!!!

^^ Van Morrison owns!

Hmm. David Bowie? Could remind them of the happenign 60's/70's.
Pink Floyd? Bob Dylan? Hendrix? Doors? Dire Straits?

Anything. =]

id say play a little breaking benjamin to catch peoples attention then play real heavy **** like devildriver, lamb of god, slayer and unearth but mix in like Alice In Chains and other mellow **** too the main thing you want to do is play alittle of what everyone wants to hear pretty much then do a couple of your own songs but make your solos more technical then if you were in studio

Well since it's 30-50, I'd stick w/more classic rock. Here's some easy ones that I know:
Boston - More than a Feeling
AC/DC - Highway to Hell, Back in Black, You Shook Me All Night Long
Aerosmith - Walk this Way
Alice Cooper - School's Out
Bachman Turner Overdrive - Taking Care of Business, Aint Seen Nothin Yet
Billy Idol - White Wedding
Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear the Reaper
Bon Jovi - Livin on a Prayer, You Give Love a Bad Name
Cheap Trick - I Want You to Want Me
Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go
Cream - Sunshine of Your Love
David Bowie - Rebel Rebel, Ziggy Stardust
Eddie Money - Take Me Home Tonight
Foreigner - Hot Blooded
Free - All Right Now
George Thorogood - Bad to the Bone
INXS - Need You Tonight
Joan Jett - I Love Rock & Roll
John Mellencamp - Hurt So Good
Journey - Anyway You Want It
Led Zeppelin - The Ocean, Rock & Roll
Lenny Kravitz - Are You Gonna Go My Way
Neil Young - Rockin in the Free World
Pat Benetar - Best Shot
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Poison - Nothing But a Good Time
Quiet Riot - Cum Feel the Noise
Rick Springfield - Jesse's Girl
Robert Palmer - Bad Case of Loving You
Rolling Stones - Satisfaction
Scorpions - Rock You Like a Hurricane
Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride
Steve Miller Band - Keep Rockin Me Baby
Tom Petty - Runnin Down a Dream, Mary Jane's Last Dance
Troggs - Wild Thing
Van Halen/The Kinks - You Really Got Me
Yes - Owner of a Lonely Heart

Those songs aren't hard (except maybe the solos), I know almost all of them beginning to end & I have only been playing for about 3 years.

Classics that everyone will know is the best way to go here.

Try Sweet Child o Mine if you can do it.

ACDC is a good idea.

Money by Pink Floyd?

Classic Punk stuff? Maybe undertones Teenage Kicks, Clash's London Calling, Buzzcocks, ever fallen in love.

Smoke On The Water?

Throw in some jazz and some modern classics (under the bridge, Black Hole Sun) and you've got all bases covered.

Depends what crowd.

Play something everyone knows, if its a real party.
Hit it with Black In Black, thats probably the best song to play at a party.

---Unfortunately.

Depending on the crowd of course. If its like...someones grad party then yes.

If its like someones wedding... Think twice.

You have to play the classic rock pop tunes back then. Not just the AC/DC and the guitar centered classic rock songs.

John Cougar Mellencamp - Jack and Diane
(Easy song great to get them clapping along)
Bob Dylan - Like a rollin stone
(They will all know the chorus)
Bruce Springstein - Born in the USA
(no brainer)
Beatles - Twist and Shout
(They all know how to dance to it)
Eagles - Hotel California
(Seems like everyone on this site knows it and its great)
Neil Young - Rockin in the Free world or whatever else you think is appropriate.
(everyone can sing along to it)
Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight
(Play this one later in the evening if it fits your set)

If you got a piano player
Bob Seger - Ole time rock n roll
ZZ top - Bad to bone
Beatles - hey jude

I almost forgot!

do Sweet home alabama for sure.

people 30 - 50 like a mix of different types of music and not just rock or not just one type of music...im in my mid 30's and ive been to many of house party/jam sessions and I know people like a mix of different music.

Some traditional songs would be nice...Im a hard rock/rock type of guy however I also like well written songs in other types of music such as.

Freddy fender..."wasted days and wasted nights"...and "before the next tear drop falls"...(freddy fender has some really good songs)

Sammy Kershaw ..."Thrid rate romance"...(one of my favorite country/pop tunes)

Dwight Yaokam..."guitars and cadillacs"

Bill Haley & The Comets..."Rock Around the Clock" ( first rock n roll song)

Juice newton..."Queen of hearts"...(I like this song and its easy to play and was a big hit back in the day)

--------------------------------------

More rock pop bands that have many songs to choose from

Beatles
Trooper
Supertramp
Elton John
The eagles
Fleetwood Mac
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Three Dog Night
Jim Croce
Doobie Brothers
Foreigner
America
Styx
Genesis
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
Ted Nugent
Nazareth...(this band has some really cool tunes)

The list goes on...I would do a google search on 60's,70's,80's, and maybe 90's music to see what were the most popular bands and songs.

I will see if I can remeber any really good songs from back in the day and I will post them.

Beatles songs are a must...just pick some of the easier ones to remember

A Hard Day's Night
All My Loving
Back in the USSR
Can't Buy Me Love
Day Tripper
Drive My Car
Eight Days a Week
I Want to Hold Your Hand

If you need any help learning any of the old songs give me a PM because I can pretty much figure out all thses tunes by ear.
