ive got a marshall dsl 401 and a fender highwy 1 strat, and i just cant seem to get the tone i want out of it. it either ends up too tinny or too bassy. i hear great strat-marshall sounds all the time, but i just cant seem to get it with mine.

any eq settings or advice?

If it's too bassy roll off bass, if it's too tinny roll off some treble. Common sense really...

Marshalls are known for sounding poor at low volumes, and all those famous tones you;re hearing - Jimi etc - are all with cranked amps. Try cranking it, ignoring your housemates' cries of pain!

Crank it.

You'll need to crank it, Marshalls aren't so nice at lower volumes.
