I have just finished, and greatly enjoyed the harry potter series, however now I feel at a loss as to what I should read. Does anyone have any suggestions for novels that are similar?
#4
The Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy.
Ender's Game \ Ender's Shadow series.

Both aren't similar to HP, but I bet you'll love them.

If you're anywhere between 13 and 16, try 'The Lives Of Christopher Chant' by Dianna Wynne Jones.

Or, try some proper literary classics: 'Animal Farm', 'Brave New World', 'Wuthering Heights', 'The Grapes Of Wrath'. Just for a start.

Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxe the movie truly sucks. Might be the worst piece of media I've ever seen.

The Bible.

Angels and Demons was okay, Da Vinci code was mediocre. The rest were just crap.

That's because it's pretty impossible to translate Douglas Adams' awesome humour from book to screen.

I mean, how do you present:

'He inched his way down the corridor, as if he would rather be yarding his way down it.'

Onto the big screen? You can't, can you? So most of his humour is lost.

I think the hype surrounding Dan Brown and an ex girlfriend going on and ****ing on about the Da Vinci Code (tbh a fair bit before it got big) has put me off him for life. I hate hype ruining stuff.

Goodness sake, piss off.

I'm not even a Christian, but it annoys me so much when people make stupid comments like that. You hate it when the evangelesicsts (sp?) forcefeed their religion onto you, and go on about their religion, well you're doing the same thing.

Shut the fuck up. Yes, we know you think the Bible is a work of fiction. No, nobody cares.

If you want to read something fantastical you could try Michael moorcock, very good fantasy author. Wether you want to read his fantasy that's famous like his Cornelius novels or the eternal champion series, i'ts all good.

one thing: No matter what anyone says about "good books" avoid Thomas Hardy. He is the most boring author in the world, serialised novels from a time when there was no TV = avoid :p

I'm afraid I agree with this. Well I'm not afraid, I just wouldn't have put it like that.

Try some Darren Shan.

Books about vampires and demons and so on. It's pretty good.

Terry Pratchett is a good fun read(has written a ton as well, so you won't run out anytie soon).
And, although nothing like rowling, everyone ought to try at least one Robert Rankin book in their lives.

Guardians of Ga'Hoole

Its about owls, and war, and cannibalism, and more war, and fire. Good books.
