They prevent Yngwie from playing too fast and incinerating the guitar.

Some people find it comfortable when your fingers don't touch the wood. Usually the top few frets (17 upwards) are scallopped, cos they're so close together, so that it's easier to sound a note more cleanly.

I think.

do you think this is a good buy?

I wouldn't buy one myself. It's all a matter of preference.

Let me put it this way: why do you want to buy a scallopped neck if you don't know what it's good for, anyway?

How much are you paying for it?

again its a preference thing, personally i think scalloped frets are awesome, great for bends and vibrato and generally make everything feel smoother and grippier in general i spose you could say. its basically like having jumbo frets

They make it easier for vibratos and bends, and they're meant to be easier to play quicker on.

I don't like the feel however, and you really need a light touch or you'll bend the notes out of tune.
The Laney Thread are big and clever. No exceptions.

Seriously, go and play a scallopped neck before you buy one, dont buy one coz it looks kool......

thats why i don't like scalloped frets. i have such a heavy touch on the fretboard i sometimes bend the notes out of tune anyway. Never buy something like that before you've tried it.
