For one aspect of all-round playing, Eddie Van Halen effortlessly switches between lead and rhythm playing (listen to "5150")...although he isn't all-round great in terms of variety of styles.

I'm sure it's harder to sing properly and shred simultaneously. No one will know if you forget the words if you're doing death vocals.
The DNA results show that Jeremy Kyle is a nob.

Django.

You all lose. Jazz guitarists and Classical guitarists are far, far, far better than any shredder or mainstream lead you could ever muster.

Knopfler
Bonamassa
Buckethead
May

Actually, since the thread is titled all around best guitarist, Django would come in last. He can't play electric guitar, meaning that he's very limited in the styles he could play, not to mention that he only has 2 fullt working fingers on his fretting hand, which renders him useless in any form of popular modern music, because he can't effectively perform power chords.

And no, they were good for their time, but they're not the best guitarists ever.

As for the best all around, I'd go with John Petrucci, Buckethead, or Chris Broderick.
