So I haven't made a thread in years, yay for me! Here we go...

I came up with the idea after hearing Sonic Youth's cover of "Superstar" at random and I wanted to compile the biggest list of any genre covering a classic song. I'm not saying Jimi Hendrix doing 'All Along The Watchtower' or anything like that, but more modern bands doing songs we've all heard a bajillion times. I'm going to attempt to place a full list out of all the posts, so try not to repeat anything that's already been said, comprende'?

Oh yeah, and no live 'i was there' songs or songs that don't have existing audio proof.

I'll start with what I got:

SONGS:
Sonic Youth - Superstar (carpenters)
Gym Class Heroes - Under The Bridge (red hot chili peppers)
Bloodhound Gang - It's Tricky (run dmc)
Incubus - Black Hole Sun (soundgarden)
Incubus - Immigrant Song (led zeppelin)
AFI - My Michelle (guns n roses)
AFI - Head Like A Hole (nine inch nails)
Lost Prophets - Cry Me A River (justin timberlake)
The Starting Line - I'm Real (ja rule and j. lo)
Rufio - Like A Prayer (madonna)
Primus - The Thing That Should Not Be (metallica)
Gatsbys American Dream - Just Like Heaven (cure)
Rage Against The Machine - How I Could Just Kill A Man (cypress hill)
Thrice - Eleanor Rigby (beatles)
Godhead - Eleanor Rigby (beatles)
Stone Temple Pilots - Break On Through (doors)
Marilyn Manson - Five To One (doors)
Marilyn Manson - Highway To Hell (acdc)
Something Corporate - Unravel (bjork)
Rise Against - Anyway You Want It (journey)
Weezer - Just What I Needed (cars)
Weezer - You Gave Your Love To Me Softly (duran duran)
Deftones - Sinatra (helmet)

ALBUMS:
Rage Against The Machine - Renegades
Deftones - B-Sides (most of the album is Depeche Mode, Helmet, and Duran Duran covers me thinks)

this list could go on for thousands of pages...and even from the artists you listed you missed the most important one - AFI - Halloween (Misfits). Classic song, best recording of AFI ever.
Gear:
Carvin Bolt-T -> Line 6 DL-4 -> Danelectro Fish and Chips -> Homemade Fuzz -> Epiphone Valve Junior Combo -> Amplitube and Guitar Rig.

A Perfect Circle- Imagine.
Rise Against's cover of Anyway You Want It is really good (but some people dislike the singer's voice which would be the only detracting factor)

Killswitch Engage - Holy Diver (Dio)

i actually like their version better than the original, i just wish Dio wouldve done the vocals in top of their playing...then it wouldve been absolutely amazing

You're insane. There are a surprising amount of websites dealing with covers though, one that I regularly check is Copy, Right? which is just a blog, but she always comes up with some odd stuff.

Why do we feel it's necessary to yak about bullsh*t in order to be comfortable?

That's when you know you found somebody special. When you can just shut the f*ck up for a minute, and comfortably share silence.

Is that a ukulele in your pants, or did you just rip ass to the tune of "Aloha Oi"?

I met Sonic Youth on June 30th, and Mars Volta on Oct 20th.

"Rise Against - Anyway You Want It (journey)"

Wow. For real?

Megadeth's cover of Nancy Sinatra's "These boots" may fit into the general area.
