Does anyone have any experience with tortoise shell binding? Not actual tortoise shell, of course. Just the plastic version. I have it on my classical, but would really like to see it on an electric guitar or other acoustics.
Sincerely, Chad.

ooh. classy... If its the artificial stuff, like the plastic binding on most guitars, I can't see it being any different preparation/installation-wise.

Me either, but do you think a layer of light wood or white plastic beneath it would help bring it out all around? I'm just curious. Wondering how common it is.

If it helps my pickguard wasn't standard tortoise shell. It's called red tortoise, which may be VERY hard to find in binding.

Well, this wasn't really motivated by your pickguard (which I still admire). Still, can anyone think of a source that I can get tortoise binding from? I'd love to do a mandolin or a dulcimer in this.
Sincerely, Chad.
