Hey UG! I come to you guys with a problem, I'm supposed to go tryout for a band on monday, but i no longer feel like I want to join them, what am I supposed to tell them to get out of it? I wanna stay friends with the band but I really just don't want to be in it.

Go and play crappy so they don't pick you.
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tell the singer you had sex with his sister...or that you think they suck and you don't think it would be a good move at this point in your career.

If they don't understand then it's not worth staying friends anyway.

Just tell 'em that, simple as that. My friends play and they're mainly rooted in pop-punk, and I like an industrial feel, so we remain friends and occasionally work together, but I have a side project that tends to my tastes. So we're both happy, and being able to enjoy what you're working on is key to band dynamics -end rant-

"Hey Guys, I don't wanna play in the band anymore, Sorry."

"Okay dude, thats cool."

It's how it will play out.

"It's not you...It's Me."

You seem to be in quite a predicament. The only way out is to kill them all.

Maybe you should just eliminate the idea of being a LEAD guitarist or a RHYTHM guitarist and just come to terms with being a guitarist.

Agreed. Why don't you want to play in the band anyway?

If you really want to get out of it... Just say you've got a lot of work and don't have time to be in a band right now...

Yes, just play with them for experience anyway, if you really have to get out tell them you're too busy with schoolwork.
