You don't need a halfstack.

for the price/value i'd probably say the ibanez, but with amps you really should try them out if you can. I prefer tube amps over even marshall solid states though.
my gear:
Jackson DKMG(the one with EMG 81/85's)
b-52 AT 212 100 watt amp
old gear i'll probably sell eventually:
yamaha beginners guitar
gunmetal grey Fender squire strat
Fender 65R amp

what do u mean? why?

There are way better amps in the $500 range, and it won't be a stack.

true.. but i like it loud :p

Why, Are you doing massive gigs?

And if you are, a tube combo will be better, because the sound waves of tube amps are easier to be heard to the human ear. Also, if you are doing massive gigs, mic your amp to the places PA system.

can you give me a site to an amp in mind

What kind of music are you into?

if he's gonna buy something in the 500-600 range, he might as well either: get a SS halfstack if he wants it, or get a tube combo like a peavey valveking, crate, or a b-52 like mine.
Unless he'd rather spend less and get a smaller combo SS.

actually those might be too loud for just your room, i'd look for maybe a good 50 watt tube amp, and that'll still probably rattle your house lol

This.
This
And this

Ok, the B-52 is a good all arounder. It can do alot, is hopefully small enough for home use, and will be good for gigs and bands later on if you need it. Definately worth trying.

The Crate. A good clean channel, and enough crunch for classic rock. With a good OD pedal, your options are endless. If you really want, they make a 30 watt version of this(which will be enough for gigs).

Ok, the Peavey. I know I said no stacks, but the Peavey is so awesome! You can't get very good cleans, but the distortion is perfect. If you like this amp, I'd wait for the 15 watt combo to come out.

i've got a pretty small room so i don't really sound great at home, but i practice with my band all of the time and so it works out.
At home i get terrible feedback because my stereo is next to my amp and my room is small :/
