I'm pretty sure that melodic death metal is a recognized subgenre of metal. Even if you want to argue that melodic death isn't a static subgenre, there's no arguing that most bands classified as melodeath are certainly more melodic that other death metal bands, and utilize less harsh vocals, etc.

I dont think they are death metal

many many friends of mine class them as metal core
look at trivium, both them and in flames sing in a similar sort of way

but on the note that they CAN sing, add that to "melodic" riffs and you get metal core
#11
Thats because the in flames that sing like trivium arn't melodeath, rewind in flames 10 years and you have yourself a prime example of melodeath

Melo-death ftw

I hate when people say this genre doesn't exist.

No **** there's no melody in death metal. That's why it's called melodic death metal.

Singing=/=metalcore. Look at Soilwork on A Predator's Portrait and Natural Born Chaos. Clean singing in pretty much every song, still melodic death.

lol of course it exists, and In Flames (until their most recent album or two) are certainly melodic death

also:

Quo Vadis
Arch Enemy
Carcass (more recent stuff)
Dark Tranquility
Kalmah
Mors Principum Est
At The Gates
Dissection's Reinkaos album (bleh)

and maaaaaaaaany many others, as you'll see in the recommendation thread of this forum
