alright I was looking through my dad's old records last night, and he maybe had one or two that I would actually listen to, but it inspired me to start collecting some records. I just want to know where I should be looking, there isn't a store around my area in MN that sells records, and I really would like to not buy over the internet because I've had some trouble with that kind of shipment. I was wondering would there be anywhere else that I could get them?

P.S. I am looking for records by Pink Floyd, The Who, and bands of that nature, how hard will it be to find those? and if I can't who else should I look to buy?

thanx

There's a used music store about 30 miles away from me, so I look for records there. I also sometimes buy over the internet. I don't just limit myself to old albums though. Newly released stuff sounds amazing on vinyl (you can get it from the band's websites and stuff.

I would suggest looking for used music stores in your general vicinity and also http://www.vvinyl.com/default.asp

You can find a lot of stuff at antique stores for a pretty reasonable or downright cheap price. I go my gf an Aerosmith album for 10 bucks and then I got myself "Chunga's Revenge" by Frank Zappa for like 6 dollars. Antique stores are the way to go.

Try yard sales and such. All kinds of good stuff to be had.
And if you don't mind me asking what did you find in your dad's record collection?

Although, it would be incredibly scary to find that his porn collection also included Barry Manilow.

If you're willing to flip though lots of duds, Goodwill and places like that will have some gems. I've gotten several Van Halen and Rush albums for $.50 each there.

I was at Goodwill yesterday and picked up Star Wars Galactic Funk. Best fifty cents I ever spent.

How much do record players start at these days? I think I'm interested in starting to buy records as well.

Why don't you start collecting CD's for your kids?

I started doing that ever since I got a solid job this summer, and I'm gonna keep that going... collect the entire discographies of my favorite bands. Hopefully my kids can appreciate good ol' Heavy Metal.

And your avatar is gold.

Sony's got a very nice turntable for $99, but it's just the turntable and a preamp so you'll need a stero system with RCA input. There's probably still all in one units out there for more.

um, if you're in the southern MN area, there's a couple of Tune Town stores that sell records...they have a pretty big selection too.

Thanks man. I'm gonna go out in a couple months and get one and a Number Of the Beast record to start it off.
