Alright. I don't usually do this, but here I go. I have to do a chemistry worksheet over the weekend, and it's on significant digits and whatnot. This is part of it:

F. Evaluate the following answers expressed to the proper number of significant digits.

4.22E^5 + 3.11E^7 + 6.003E^6

Now, what does "E" mean? Ty

That color is hard to read. Don't you have a textbook lying around somewhere?

#3

E=mc2

...duh!

...duh!

#4

E means the numbers before it are multiplied by 10.

edit: I think

Pure sex Brando, Pure ****ing sex.

Sorry, I can't help.-

#6

E stands for exponent.

#7

E means the numbers before it are multiplied by 10.

edit: I think

So basically, the 4.22E^6 would be 4.22 x 10^6?

As for the color, what are you talking about? This is easy to read on both skins Maybe my monitor is too bright.

#8

1.3 E 3 = 1.3 X 10 ^3 = 1300 eh?

#9

i have a button with E on my graphics calculator and that stands for exponential

so maybe its 4.22 to the power of 5?

EDIT: lawl im slow. slow but correct.

e means the number before x 10 to the power of the number after

#11

4.22E^5 would be 4.22 to the power of 5....i think :S i failed math last year and i dont take chemistry but thats my guess

#12

Yes, I think so.

Why not just put 4.22^5 then

I was leaning toward the E^6 meaning 10^6, but I'll wait for some more replies.

yeah thats whut it means.

Sig Dig? GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN!

but really... ummmm... ya for instance 3.5E6 = 3.5 x 10^6 = 3,500,000

it's synonymous with scientific notation. just ask if that doesn't make sense.

he's right...just to clarifyE means the numbers before it are multiplied by 10.

correct

#19

The E is the numbers before multiplied by 10. Scientific notation, beeyotches.

#20

dude ur asking the pit chemistry questions r u kidding me..?

#21

Thank you

not quite... think of it literally as an expression.

3.5E6 = 3.5 x 10^6, right?

now use order of operations:

(3.5)(10^6) = (3.5)(10,000,000) = 35,000,000

so its more like the numbers before are multiplied by 10^x, mmmkay?

Maybe you knew this but im just trying to make it painfully clear.
