Bass is much more important than a lead guitar.
You won't be the one with millions of fans or doing magazine covers though :\

Well i spose theres more you can do with electric, but i play both and know what you mean, but it can sound as weird without bass as it does without electric guitar.

Bass is a way of getting your friend with no musical talent into the band.
“It's easy to play any musical instrument: all you have to do is touch the right key at the right time and the instrument will play itself.” -Johann Sebastian Bach

Songs without solos are kind of boring, but I guess bass is more important still.

I prefer guitars. If I preferred bass, it's what I'd play.
EDIT: And as much as I hate the White Stripes, I think I'd rather listen to a band with no bass than one with no guitars. No matter how cool Big Bottom is, the lack of guitar is a gimmick, and nothing more.

Bass is the most important section in any band, orchestra, etc, etc. Without bass, everything else falls apart.

I play both, and I prefer to play guitar. I think bass, guitar, and drums are of equal importance in rock music

Why? Because I said bass is more important than lead guitar or that songs without solos are boring?

Bass is FAR, FAR, FAR more important. This is coming from a lead guitarist. One time, my ex-drummer wanted my bassist out of my band. That bitch ain't in MY band anymore. Anyone with a sound musical mind that every band needs a bass/bass section.
Bands to see before I die:
Iron Maiden
Foo Fighters
Megadeth
Reel Big Fish
Rush
Streetlight Manifesto

Gear:
Epi LP Standard
Washburn Strat
Line 6 Spider (Yes, I know it's bad)

GAS:
Ibanez RG3570Z
Digitech Whammy

I don't think either, I think drummers are the best.

That songs without solos are boring

I fail to see how an entire song can be constituted as 'boring' when it lacks one 30 second section
#26
they are got their roles... but personally, i would rather listen to a bass solo than a guitar solo. Guitar solos are getting old... And watching good bassists play is more entertaining than watching guitarists. For example: Victor Wooten vs. Yngwie Malmsteen!

I'll go with Victa

Well, I might have exaggerated a bit there. What I meant to say is that songs are a bit better with solos. I would prefer a song with one or two than a song with none.

Yeah, there's much more that can be done with a guitar than bass. Like that one guy said about the white stripes.

TBH, some days I'd rather gouge out my eyes with a spatula than listen to anyone actually do a solo, no matter how good they're reckoned to be.
But I'd still reach for the spatula faster if threatened with a bass solo.
#32
To be perfectly honest, you don't need either. Just look at Death From Above 1979, no guitarist, The White Stripes, no bassist.

Meh, I think you get good songs with solos and bad songs with solos

Just the same as anything else

A solo in a song doesn't make it better

Bass is important, but if I had to pick to either leave out the bass or the guitar leads I'd choose the bass, sorry.

I love poppin and slappin things though, I could listen to em for hours.

Then we'll have to agree to disagree :O. I think it adds a bit more 'spice' to the song .
