that i can't use standard tuning if i have .010 strings

yesterday i took my guitar with him to make the proper adjustments to it (springs, trus rod, action, intonation)

and he told me that i can use the god damned .010 strings with standard, i respect my teacher, but that it's just pointless

btw, we didn't finis the adjustments, do you think i should tell him that i don't care and we should set up my guitar the way i want to, or should i just follow his "wise" advice

no offence but your teacher's a fucking moron.

why wouldn't you be able to use standard tuning with .010s? Is there something I'm missing? That is completely random and I've never heard that before. Why wouldn't you be able to tune to standard with .010's? Those are regular size strings, that makes no sense... Are you sure you heard your teacher right?

yeah, he's awesome in other aspects of guitar, but he seriously sucks at that

my guitar has some issues, so i'll let him set it up as he wants to, and then i'll just fix the intonation so i can use the 10's with standard, if not, i'll do it completely by myself

what issues has ur guitar got ? if ur bridge had serious probs, might have trouble with the tension or innotation.

yeah, 10s are considered STANDARD gauge, I tune to standard with 11s, and Jazz players do it with 12s and 13s.

eh, i wouldn't go that far. a lot of the time the best players barely know how to even string their guitars... if he's a good music teacher, stick with him by all means. Just don't let him anywhere the hell near your guitar!

well, i guess it's possible that your springs in the trem or something won't adjust properly to adjust to the new string tension, but it's unlikely...

By the looks of that, he believes that certain string gauges can ONLY play certain turnings. What a retard!

What does your teacher say when you drop to D? "OMG YOU CAN ONLY DO THAT WITH .012's, are you trying to break your guitar!!!???"

yes, i know there's no certain type of strings for different tuning, my teacher has tons of knowledge on different subjects related to music (he's an excellent teacher tbh) but he failed only in this

those look quite far screwed in... unless he couldn't get eough tension in the trem springs to counteract the tension of thicker strings. but generally speaking, you should be fine using 10's for standard tuning.

The only way I can think he'd possibly be anywhere near right is if he means you can only use those string gauges for those tunings WITHOUT setting up your trem again...But even then...
