when playing large chords followed by arpeggios (on a les paul) is it best to rest the side of your hand on the bridge or keep it arched up and free and not touch the bridge at all?

they have tune-o-matics, right? if so then DON'T rest your hand there. if it's a fixed bridge then it's okay, but still not the greatest idea.
