Hey guys i sprained my pinky finger, how long should i wait until y start playing bass again?
#2
pretty much until the pain stops. i'd rest it as much as possible so it heals quickly...i might even give it an extra day after it stops hurting so it doesn't get worse again right away.

EDIT: Wait...you sprained your pinky.....how?

Dear Stoner Stone,
I have found in reading this post that you are lacking the intelligence of a normal person.
you need serious help, possibly involving a screwdriver, and a large piece of wood.
please, be deceased now.
thank you

ice will reduce the blood flow...so if there's any swelling put ice on it...if not don't.

Same principal as weight lifting, if you hurt yourself, dont do anything with that muscle cause its only gonna get more messed up.

To pass the time, you could try writing songs (albiet without your bass to help), or practice your theory like mentioned before.

Once most of the swelling has gone down it is really up to you. Working with your pinky a little bit will not be detrimental. Because I play a lot of sports I have sprained my fingers numerous times and doing basic exercises (chromatics, scales) will actually help to strengthen the finger up and cause it to heal slightly faster. Unless the pain is unbearable, in which case you just need to take a break for a few days.
I got in everyone's hostile little face. Yes, these are bruises from fighting. Yes, I'm comfortable with that. I am enlightened.

you can play without your pinky, on either hand. It's important on your fretting hand, but you can still play decent enough without it. I don't know of anybody who has a pinky strong enough to play the strings.

But yeah, I'd still say rest it.

We should meet.

On another issue. If you want to strengthen your pinky get yourself an upright bass. Thats gonna bulk it up. I promise.
