I wrote a Bass Line for a song called "Another Toy", here it is:

VERSE

G|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|--------------------------------------12-10----------------------------------------|
A|------------------12-10-10-10-10--------10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-8-7--|
E|-10-10-10-10---------------------------------------------------------------------|

CHORUS

G|-----------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|----------------------------------------10----------------------------|
A|------------------------------------------------------------------13--|
E|10-----------------14------------------------------------------------|

MIDDLE 8

G|--------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|--------------------10-------------------10----------------------|
A|-------------------------------------------13----------------------|
E|10-----------------------------------------------------------------|

Is this "Technically Sound" (i.e. is it all in key, all suitable, all part of a scale, etc?)

I *think* it is, but I'm not certain, lol.

Any help would be appreciated

www.myspace.com/theshimsband - Goes with "another toy" on that myspace instead of the current bass line.

does it sound good? If so, it doesn't matter if it's technically sound or not.

I havnt heard the song but heres the technical stuff, verse is in D minor using chord tones till you till the last note but I like the sound of it.

Your chorus I also like the soud of but you move out of D minor here because you use the major thrid of the scale.

And your middle 8 in back in D minor.

But none of that matters as long as it sounds right!

Go to your staff paper and re-write this song a half step down so on the paper it'll be like you have a "C" just move it down to a "B#"

Know your theory, then play like you don't.

Except from the F# in the chorus, your song appears to be in D minor. Nothing wrong with that. But as the person above me said: The most important thing is that it sounds good to you (and preferably to others).

The saddest of all keys...

TS: There is no right or wrong, as long as it sounds good to your ears and the rest of the people in your band who gives a damn if it's completely in key (diatonic for future reference)?
