I have a 5150 and im not 100% happy with its sound, and everyone keeps recommending a tubescreamer to give me more gain. i already dont put the amps gain got over 6 because it goes saturated, and when i put a tubescreamer in it completely sucks the tone out (ibanez tubescreamer)

The Tubescreamer is very useful for tightening up an amps sound and driving it forward for soloing tones, when you need to cut. If you're scooping the mids, then the mid based Tubescreamer will of course affect your tone. You should avoid scooping mids though as you lose yourself in a band situation.

You shouldn't really need more gain if you're using a 5150 though o.O

i said above it wasnt for more gain, it was to try and make the sound a bit less harsh

In which case, knock back the gain on the amp a bit and try using the Tubescreamer to tighten the sound up a bit. The 5150 is a harsh sounding amp though.

Erm...ok. My Orange sounds fine.

Wasn't the best studio tech or recording setup in the world.
