It's a lot of harmonics played quickly, chances are what he's doing is playing legato on one string with his fret hand and using his pick hand to create the harmonics up where the pickups are by moving his hand around. I think there's a lesson about them on youtube somewhere but I can't find it right now.

It's a modulation effect, maybe an envelope filter or...bugger whats the word for it...ill get back to you

Actually it could be the idea of the harmonics ^

Well I would imagine its actually just some tremolo picking with some mad effects, like alot of modulation and envelope filters. It's unlikely those are harmonics IMO, unless he just has some weird gain sound on.
