if you mean a 6 string with two extra low strings instead of the high C it's:

F#-B-E-A-D-G

but it can be tough finding a speaker that can handle that low F#.

well youve been anwsered, now im going to try to mooch off your thread and ask:

Is anybody here cool enough to tune their 5 E A D G C?

You my friend, should be slapped for such behavior.

Isn't that like, defeating the purpose of a 5 string?

many people do that...ok not many but a few. It's fine if you won't use the B but you might use the C. And the purpose of a 5 string is to creat more note possiblilties and the high C would do that....kinda....but really I play a 6 string and i use the high C for easier fingerings rather than higher notes.

Just honest opinion I guess, but I've never had a problem making a high note sound solid, it's always the lower notes and dropped tunings that bother me.

What if you're adding an extra low string instead of a higher one though?

I play EADGC and you my friend should be slapped for such a comment, listen to my song "Portrait of Ingrid" in my profile that's that tuning working, and try to play it in a 4 stringer, Hell, I'll give you the sheet.

Haha I actually have mine strung like that at the mo! Its different and I didn't come across much use for and I think id just rather have a 6 sting save the hassle

My dial up hates playing music over the internets, but if you give me a sheet i'll give it a whack.

Hey, I got a question: what do you buy for strings? Do you buy a 6 string set or what? I am really geared toward getting the high C and am interested but cheap. Also, did you have to refile the nut?

What kind of gauge would the F# string be? A 130 or 135 would sound like poop.

Actually, it's impossible to play on a four string. Some harmonics just cannot be found without the C. That was my point.

I bought a DR six string set and just kept the B for future experiments. And actually I didn't refile the nut and it's working great, but one of these days I will.
