welcome GCSE doers, this is the thread for those of you going into year 11 this year, like myself, and wish to receive homework / c/w help, share experiences and complain about how terrible your school is.

I took my GCSEs in May, I'm in college now. Take this advice:

When you're told to revise, DO IT

Start as early as you can too. It sounds cliché but I mean it. I was supposed to get A*- C grades but ended up with B - Ds because I did no revision at all. As for the year, don't worry, it passes extremely fast.

Contrary to popular belief, you can revise while watching TV or so. When I did my very first mock science GCSE in year 10 I got an A* and I revised while watching football (it's just a shame I didn't take the real thing seriously). Just make sure youre rested/relaxed, otherwise you wont take anything in.

disconnect your internet, the internet will suck out all your revision time

Keep away from the PC and lock up your guitars and give you parents the key or something. I know that less guitar and internet would have helped me more, but I'm not all that unhappy with my results to be honest.

Anybody studying German this year? I got a B in it so I could probably help you a little considering most people in my year got C-Us
#11
I've never actually done any revision, and I've always good good exam results. Some people are revision people, some aren't.

I got an A, 5 Bs and 4 Cs at GCSE. I was capable of getting As and A*s in everything, but my enthusiasm for school just got killed off in year 10. GCSEs don't matter much once you're onto A Levels or College anyway.

EDIT: ^^ My pet cat could get an A in RE, it's an utter doss that nobody pays attention to.
A dwarf might hear you. What then?

I got an F in RS. Noone in my year took it as a subject so it got cancelled, and in consequence noone takes it seriously.

Don't bother listening to everyone who's telling you to lock up your guitars and disconnect your computer, you can have plenty of free time if you just set aside a couple of hours a night. I have the same problem so when I was doing part of my GCSEs last year, I got my Dad to quiz me on it every night. If there's someone else there making sure you concentrate, it helps.

GCSEs were a big deal back when I was doing them but I agree with the people who back then were telling me that later you'll see that they aren't difficult or as majorly important as people make out. They are in essence a way to know what way to specialise for A levels and a practice for the AS levels.

You'd be ****ed in later life if you had failed your GCSEs. Plus, my school only allows us to go into Sixth Form if we don't do them to a certain standard.

GCSEs are meh. my brother is going into year 11 now while i'm off to uni. if you need to revise for anything its A levels. they are NOT getting easier and screwing them up means the end of the university road. just hang in there through year 11.

like C's in english/maths/science? i like how the science paper asked: "which of these is plastic? *4 options*" most people who don't get Cs don't even want to go into 6th form anyway (from my experience)
"And after all of this, I am amazed...

Just chill out and try not to worry to much. Get the coursework done and do plenty of past papers for revision. All the work and coursework is hyped up before but you will son realise it is bs. Being in year 11 is a great.

Im doing Standard Grades. I think it's the same as GCSEs. Well you did say UK. I have my prelims in a couple of months. I hope I do ok. I know i'm going to have to lock the room where my computer is, turn off my phone and lock away my guitars to revise. I don't know when to start revising, something tells me start it now and get through everything thoroughly. On the other hand if I start revising now I might not remember it and it would just be pointless. Hmm. I did my English last year and i'm doing Int2 English now. Everythings happening fast like.
