I Want something portable that records as many tracks possible simultaneously. I have about £200 to spend. I'd preferably like something that has built in amp models.

Any help appreciated. I'm onlt just starting recording/mixing ETC so i just want something i can play around with and possibly record a band.

This HAS to be portable. I already use software and a soundcard when at home but i need something i can use away from my computer.

Any help appreciated guys.

Why not just use the software you have and use it on a laptop...thats portable.

Because i don't have one. I'm on a budget. A laptop capable of recording is way out of my financial capabilites.

$403 USD budget will get you an OK unit

I see a few choices but Frostex is a nice brand to start with for MTRs

see this $400 unit - Fostex MR-8HD CD:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fostex-MRHDCD-8-track-Recorder-with-CDR?sku=247120

and if you keep an eye out on ebay for a used unit you may be able to get yourself a 16 track unit like this Fostex MR16HD but the CD burner will add another $100 to the listing and your already at $500 USD for this non CD unit
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fostex-MR16HD-16Track-Digital-Recorder?sku=701051

keep an eye out on ebay for a good used unit. You will like the 16 tracks much more than 8

also have a look at this:

Well I've basically narrowed it down to either the fostex MR8 or Boss BR600. Anyone have any advice to offer regarding my decision?

edit: and the MR16 is £320 over here which is the equivalent of 660 USD. How stupid.

Only thing is the BR600 only has 1 input to be used. The fostex can do 4 at once.
