so i got into the guitar class at school and then i realize that its for people who dont actually know how to play.... like nerds who want to be cool and the like.

i want to be in the class because of the theory and composition.
but the rest sucks, and i dont know what to do because most of it is a waste of time.

any REAL suggestions?

p.s. dont look at my sig

In my school, there's a basic and advanced guitar class. You have to finish basic to get in to advanced but if basic is too easy for you, then you have to try out to get in to advanced. See if you have an advanced level guitar class in your school.

REally?

I'm getting guitar in another....errrr 15 weeks.

It's going to be fun becuase I will finaly have somone tell me I'm doing something wrong and that I need to learn my modes and scales.

OH and that I get to carry around my **** nylon acoustic, I see people carrying around 1000 dollar ibanez acoustics to 40 dollar second hand fender acoustics.
I don't even shred

switch out. if u feel like ur wasting ur time and u want to actually accomplish something then switch out. if not, enjoy the easy A.

haha same man, i have it third semester. I love my schools music program, I also have "survey of modern music" second semester and am taking Music Theory classes now. I'm so bummed that they had to drop a class studying music throughout the ages, from classical stuff to juzz-fusion

Lol, the same thing happened to me today. I went to guitar class the first day and there were lots of people who came who didn't even have guitars. Yet on the booklet for signing up classes... it reads "Must be familiar with or have past experience with playing guitar, must take pre-requisite class Music Introduction if you've never played". Yet i'm surrounded by people in there who never played a thing in their life. I practiced over summer time so i could get in, and all these f*ckin preppy dumb @sses had to do was just sign in? >: (

you should've just not mentioned about your sig, and whats so embarrasing about your sig?

But the hell with guitar class. What's so bad about that? I'd kill to learn something that I already know.

P.S. Pretend that you suck at first

not possible. the guitar class at my school was filled with nerds, emo girls (the ugly kind), and people who just suck at guitar in general. its for posers who wanna show off that they play guitar, even though they suck. seriously, i heard them having a group dicussion about how hard the intro to crazy train was. i unintentionally impressed one with a blink 182 song. on the bright side, me and my REAL guitarist friends were able to make them our bitches.

I'm in the exact same situation as you, EXACT SAME. i'm there only for the theory part but that's gonna take weeks to get to it.

id jsut like to say that you all f-ing had to learn somehow and werent as good as you now imagine yourselfs to be. so maybe rather than bitch about how everyone who is worse than you is a nerd and loser, you could like try to put your experience to use and help them learn to play. just a thot

I'm in guitar II and although it's kinda boring, I'm learning a lot of stuff (reading music, 1st and 5th position, pentatonic scale, and a few chords I haven;t heard of.) I'm surprised I learned so much because even though I'm retarded when it comes to theory on guitar, I'm pretty familiar with general theory.

And I didn't have to take guitar I, my mom just simply requested I be put into guitar II because it was the only way I could fit guitar into my schedule.

i would agree with you, but the kids are just there to show off the fact that they play guitar, regardless of how badly, not to learn.

I'm sorry, but that's the most simple part of theory. You're gonna fail miserably.

^it's called a treble clef, n00b.

I would take guitar class.
Easiest 'A' in the world.
In general music in Junior High School, they told everyone that they were going to be taught guitar. Everyone said "ZOMG!" and couldn't wait, and then once it started, they spent the first 75%-85% of the semester talking about treble clef, and they spent the rest of the time learning Ode to Joy. ZOMG!

I didn't take the class, because I was already in the school band playing baritone sax, though they did let me play guitar in Jazz Band and for a couple parts in band, namely Free Bird. I remembered small parts of the solo and improvised the rest. I thought it was funny, 'cause this one kid that wore Lynyrd Skynyrd shirts all the time swore I played the entire real solo. Nublet.
