But I got a new electric today and I've been playing an acoustic all my life, the thing I can't understand about my electric is... how to work the wammy bar. (sounds very noobish I know, but I really do need help, how do I make it work???)

push it down towards the body so it loosens the strings and lowers the pitch

Push it dow in diffeent patterns.

BTW. You must screw it in the body first, you know.

If you think of a singer think of the way the voice "trembles" a little. Hit a note and lightly press it down and release. Not too much, and make the note tremble a little. Practice with it, use it subtley and it can be a beautiful thing. Practice speed and degree. Remember not too much. Of course for dive bombs in metal it is different, but you're not ready for that yet.

It should first point towards your headstock, then you push down on it.

You'll see what kind of sound it makes.
