What chord progressions should i use to write a song in the key of D melodic minor ?

I thought it was ( i , bIII, bVII, IV)
But when I look at it, the notes in the chords arent in the 'D melodic minor' scale.

Anyone know the progressions? Or if im just wrong

Thanks in advance.

i - Dm, D-Δ
ii - Em, Em7, Em7b9, Esusb9
bIII - Fmaj, FΔ, FΔ+
IV - G7, G7#11
V - A7b13 from the tonic, but usually the i chord with the V in the bass. In D, D-Δ/A.
vi - Bdim,
VII - C#7, C#7alt (C#7b5, #5, b9, #9).

Most common chords in bold.

Is that what you wanted? Or were you asking for specific progression built from melodic minor?

You do use the triangles to represent dim right? the vi- dim label had just thrown me off with the other notation.

triangles represent _maj7 I learnt, and John uses them with any chord with a _maj7, _maj9 etc. in it I think.

*chuckle* A peanut. With a face.

Go to your staff paper and re-write this song a half step down so on the paper it'll be like you have a "C" just move it down to a "B#"

Know your theory, then play like you don't.

Triangles mean major sevens if my college years don't desert me!

Ah thats right! thanks, I rember now because I would always mistake it for dim on glance. So I would typically side note is as M7 :p.

I'm looking to start writing in the melodic minor as well, so any replies will help me too!

And I maneged to write a baroque sounding riff thing, but it's not a progression. I have written some progresions, but none of them sound good.

Also I think the Beatles - Yesterday is in the melodic minor so have a look at that.
