In my time, I've heard people give good reason to why they don't listen to a genre, and I've also heard bad ones. Here are some bad ones:

Classic Rock: "I don't listen to it because that's the stuff my parents listen to."

Jazz: "It's just a bunch of people hitting wrong notes."

Electronica: "That stuff is for nerds."

Rap: "Rap stand for Retards Attempting Poetry" or "It's just people saying a bunch of curse words"

Any genre of music: "It doesn't have any emotion"
#3
If it's not on Top 40, the majority of people are like "lol thatz emo".

I'm like "This is the fucking Velvet Underground."
#4
"It has emotion."
"It has no emotion"

That's basically it. What's "cool" usually contradicts.
#6
Hardcore - it's just yelling

Classical - d00d I r teh gay.

Ah, all those excuses make me cringe.

Though, personally I've never heard anyone give excuses for not listening to a particular genre. Probably because I've never asked...
#8
a genre? well i hear pelnty of dumb excuses for listening to bands, but genres? basically its mainly against classical, usualyl dumb stuff like why they dont sing, and why odnt the composers actually play the instruments themselves?

yah. thats canadian teenagers for ya.

A lot of people don't like rap on here for pretty much no reason.
#10
Rap is like any other genre, the stuff they play on Tv is garbage.

That wouldn't be such a bad excuse if people said "I think it doesn't have any emotion". Different genres speak to different people. I can understand why some people don't find certain genres moving.

1. Look up the definition of music.
2. Yes, I could name you 20 off the top of my head.
3. Shut the fuck up please.

Opinions are all well and good, but you're just saying stupid shit and acting like it's factual.

I actually had someone tell me that she didn't listen to rock because it

"didn't involve any talent"
..."at all"

Because I guess you don't need to play an instrument, or sing, or write to be in a rock band.

You have an Ozzy avatar, as far as I know he just does vocals. Is he a musician?

Death Metal: "It's just a bunch of people screaming and crying about losing their mommies."

Metal in general: "A bunch of screaming wussies."

Jazz: "Most boring and stupid sh*t ever."

Blues: "It's stupid."

Here's something funny a few guys said when I said I don't listen to rap, country, or most mainstream rock: "You have no musical taste."
Om nom nom nom!

You do realize the voice is a musical instrument by fact.

Music is all opinion, which everyone is entitled to their own. It would be better to say "I think this genre has no emotion or rhythm" than to say "this genre doesn't have any emotion or rhythm. It's all personal preference, but you shouldn't insult people for listening to other music, like if someone says "Oh, do you listen to rap music?", instead of saying "Rap is stupid, I hate it", say something like "Oh, I don't really listen to/like rap music". That way, there are no flame wars or arguements then, and everyone is happy.

mhmm, but it's not just that. One reason why I love rap is that it incorporates so many other styles and has so much potential.

This happened like 2 days ago with a friend of mine who says he's turned into a "true rocker" after going through 2-3 years of a ghetto phase.

Me: Great to hear you like rock now bro, what bands you like?
Friend: Dude, rock is great, I really like Boys Like Girls, Fall Out Boy and stuff like that
Me: Oh..um, ok
Friend: what's your favorites?
Me: *sends him video of thunderstruck*
Friend: What is this gay trash? He's dressed up like a little boy, and he sucks at guitar
Me: *sends him Money by Pink Floyd*
Friend: This is worse!!! All these bands have no skill
Me: Dude, those are some of the greatest bands out there. I understand if you don't like them but you can't possibly say they have no skills
Friend: wait..you mean alot of rockers like these bands?
Me: ...that's one way of putting it...
Friend: oh, well they are pretty good come to think of it

I really hate my friend

1. Have them listen to some opera. Perhaps Wagner's Ring Cycle.

2. Have them listen to Rachmaninoff playing Rachmaninoff.

As for a combo of the two...I dunno. Haven't heard any composers sing. =/

it doesnt matter to me, they're all idiots anyways, i don't need to show them nothing, ignorance is your own fault, no-one elses.

there are things called librarys and the internet, it can be helpful. they dont deserve to have me tell them

My personal favorite: "Shred doesn't have emotion, it's just notes being played fast!"

That one gets me every time. Anyone who talks about music having or not having enough emotion is officially a dumbass. Like the songs on the CD will have their feelings broken if you stop playing them. Christ.
Dear God, do you actually answer prayers?

Yes, but only in a way indistinguishable from random luck or the result of your own efforts.

I tried playing Hendrix to this chick I know.

She said, "Eww, this stuff makes me want to cut myself."

To which I replied, "Then I'm surprized you don't like it."

Needless to say, we no longer converse.

When I listen to Metal around my grungey friends, they're like "What crap, it has NO emotion or passion. It's all about Satan, that's seriously all they ever talk about." Some people are just stupid.

Well I often assume the people talking to me knows who's opinion I'm stating. I would not say someone else's. That pretty much takes out the need to say, "Well I believe...".
Unless, of course, you are talking to a complete idiot.
