which set do you think would be best to put in an Epi LP custom?

I dont play a lot of metal so if thats helps
#2
what amp are you playing through? it makes a bigger difference than pickups alone. after a decent amp, pickups are a nice upgrade.

I'm wondering the same question, and my gear is in my sig.

ah, i can't really say much on many pickups, but for emg's the 81 has 'eh' cleans and the 85 has very nice cleans. especially through your amp ^. the gain is tight and articulate, but not very vintage-y. look elsewhere if you're into indie/blues for the bridge pickup.

i will soon be playing through a Flextone II 212

Then I would suggest the JB/Jazz set.

If you don't play a lot of metal, I wouldn't suggest EMGs, they're a lot more versatile than people make them out to be, but the Duncans will do everything very well.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

I dont play metal and I have EMGs in my LTD. I like the smooth sound...

yeah. emgs are pretty good even if you don't play metal. you need to ajust the pickups height according to the amount of bass you want

^^ ditto. except replace "LTD" with "SG"
