I love Candlemass and Solitude Aeturnus and i recently tried to get into some of the other critically acclaimed doom around here such as Electric Wizard and Cathedral etc. but the horrible vocals put me off. I'm currently trying to find more Candlemass-esque bands both instrumentally and vocally

Cool I never knew there was a Doom thread.

Doom:VS is my favourite metal ''band'' ever. Also been digging Shape of Despair, Pantheist, Katatonia. I like the heavier funeral/death/doom.

Anyone heard Stonewall Noise Orchestra? Really cool traditional doom band I found from the Matamp website: http://www.myspace.com/stonewallnoiseorchestra

The new Electric Wizard album is complete, for those who are interested. Release date to be announced still.

Just got back from Candlemass. After Robert Lowes perfomance tonight, you would never have thought that Messiah was ever in the band. One of the best concerts I have ever been to, without a shadow of a doubt.

Just started listening too Witchcraft, good old traditional doom!

Indeed. Though the new one looks to be more hard rock. Nout wrong with that, of course.

Pale Divine is a pretty good doom band.

I love you. Cemetery Earth is amazing, as are their other albums...Yet another fine adition to the quality bands that the East US has churned out, right up there with Earthride and Saint Vitus. Everyone listen to this band, now.

It seems like any time anyone mentions that band here, they get the same reaction.

ghosts of the undead by six feet under is a slow doomish song

Whoever has not heard Sleep should do so now. Sleep's Holy Mountain is FUCKING AWESOME.

Indeed, Panopticon is my favorite album!

Agreed. Favourite song off that album would have to be Grinning Mouths.

My Dying Bride, Agalloch, Candlemass

Sleep is pretty cool, I'd kill for a Dragonaunt tab.

Is there such a thing as a heavy riff with out chugging on the e string?

Insert ostensibly long list of funeral doom bands.

[/contribution]

not going to bother typing them all out.

Having a single doom thread is actually not a horrible idea, as every thread on any half worthwhile doom band gets 2 replies and vanishes into oblivion. And only for the sake of protesting pommie scum will I not directly ***** my band in this post.

So, a follow up question is Electric Wizard more like Sabbath's "Electric Funeral" sludgy or another type??

What is a good band to get into (and a good album to start with) that is in the vain of Traditional Doom such as Candlemass?? **As in clean Vocals, not entirely stoner-ish all the time etc And HEAVY

Thanks

Not sure what your talking here...they're like a natural continuation of the Sabbath/Saint Vitus sound, only grittier and with rougher vocals. If that helps.

Solitude Aeturnus - Beyond the Crimson Horizon
Reverend Bizarre - In the Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend
Solstice - New Dark Age
Pagan Altar - Vol. 1
While Heaven Wept - Of Empires Forlorn
Warning - Watching from a Distance
Mirror of Deception - Shards

And dear God, I REALLY dislike the term 'traditional' doom. Gah.

Just got my Vo Skorbyah album in the mail. Nothing like folk-doom hybrid

edit to makkis: lol I'm guessing that wasn't directed at me...
