Are you in the band?

Do you know what an embouchure is?

Do you specify your wood in reeds?

Can you name more instrument names then family names?

Are you the coolest person on Earth?

Then yes.

In my shcool, the school band kids are the also the kids that are in their own metal bands. They are some really cool people, even though I still make fun of them for veing band geeks... The true band geek has died out I believe, meaning, super nerd were people like to **** in his tuba.

band geek = being in the school band.

Now, the difference between a band geek geek, and a cool band geek..thats different

most of my friends consist of band geeks. I am also a band geek. In fact, I'm such a band geek, that I went to an instrument store today to ask about trading in an old clarinet from the 60s and a used tenor i have to buy a new 2000 dollar tenor...im excited too, thats the bad part

I orked my ass off marching 9 hours a day for 9 days straight.

So not what it's made out to be.

I feel proud when I'm in my marching band uniform during the game. Does that make me a band geek?

If it does, then I'm the damn coolest band geek I've ever met

I don't think that just being in school band makes you a band geek. You have to be in school band by your own free will. More than half of our band members are only there because they were forced by their parents, and the less tactful among them have no trouble letting our poor teacher know how they feel about her class.

There's no time to do anything at school band camp. Mine is Monday through Friday 12-8 with only an hour break for dinner-and that's easy compared to some other bands. Sleep-away band camp I wouldn't know though.

In band camp, we have it at school. It was 9-7 monday through friday for 2 weeks. Then we have 3 hour rehearsals every monday and thursday. And before every rehearsal everyone runs a half mile.

There are in some states, schools that hold band camp at colleges and they pretty much all live at the college during band camp. But they dont' nearly have as much time as the movies suggest.

I really love band, I'm in marching concert and jazz band. I hold first chair in concert and I'm sax section leader in marching. I guess I'm a band geek. I'm kinda pissed at my section right now, becuase sometimes you get those kids that don't want to be in band.

Yeah my whole section is made up of those kids. They all suck, and one in particular is especially bitchy.

Otherwise all is good.
#20
yeah. I think your only a band geek if (unlike me) you actually sit down, practice and practically suck everybodys dick to make them happy.

Not me, I just play my trumpet, march, and use it for fine arts and PE, cause I signed up to play music, not put up with peoples ****.

Kaplac, I totally know what you mean about the bitchy kids. Last year, our entire woodwind section was that way, and the freshman girls simply would not shut up. The whole time it was "Why do we have to learn something new?" or "Can we stop early today?" or "I wanna have a study hall this period!" We don't even have to march.

The band camp I went to was awesome, though. No marching involved, great activities planned every night, great counselors, a fun crew, parents on the other side of the state...
Good times, good times...

This is the second band related thread I have posted in in the last 5 minutes. Anyway

I'm a band geek, have been for years and now I'm in the University of Minnesota Marching Band, talk about intense. Band camp is two and a half weeks of three a day practices from 8:30 in the morning until 10:30 at night. After that we go down to 2 and a half hour practices every day after classes, 3 hours on friday, and including the game on saturday, the day usually lasts 11 to 13 hours depending on the length of the game, and I wouldnt stop for anything because its nice to be in a band that everybody wants to be in and wants to see succesful. Also being in a marching band at any school like a big ten college just rocks!

end of band nerdiness for today
#28
Our (H.S.) marching band has 7days of band camp (8-2:30 and then 4-9). Then during the marching season, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday practice is from 2:50-6 and a majority of the football games are on Fridays (After practice). Saturdays we have either practice from 9-4 or a competition of some sort. Its pretty tedious but it's still fun.

i go to school where no one cares about the band exept for the people in band, being in little town kansas, its all foot ball and track, so when the band shows up and we have like 25% of the school in band now, being a band geek is normal, and being the drum major for a 100 kid band makes you the bigest one of all

the thing i like about college marching band is we get to learn a different show every week. I mean I also liked competitive high school marching band, but the same show for 4-6 months got old. We get to learn a different show every week as well as perform a pregame show, and half time and post game.

Tell me about it. Our high school band has shrunk to 17 members this year.

You know when you're a band geek when before you play Bohemian Rhapsody on the field, the whole band sings it spontaneously and everyone takes different parts depending on vocal range....Then our gay ass band director yells at us because he's a fun ruining old man.......We warmed up way better since we sang before hand......Even our assistant director doesn't like our director....

We march 19 people last year including color guard....and we got straight 1's bitch.....
