You'll be better off buying single pedals if you're going to be running it through a tube amp, it will more than likely suck your tone.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

My guitar teacher has a gt-6 (the ancient predecessor to the gt-8) and he loves it. I, on the other hand, own a Zoom G7, which is only slightly more expensive than a boss me-50, and sounds pretty fantastic to my ears. There's a review of it that I've written on the site, if you care to look at it.

EDIT: What MatrixClaw mentioned above can be true, but I find that if I engage only the individual settings that I want with my Zoom, then tone colouration is pretty minimal i.e. turning off noise reduction and such. I use a Vox AC15, your amp may interact with a multifx differently.
Love is not a victory march.
