Okay, I just wrote a new song for my band, and it when I played the song, it rocked, but the problem is, it sounds just like another song almost exactly in the main riff(different key and slightly different variations on the same note phrase), but everything else is different. Do I keep the song and accept the criticism, or scrap the whole thing.

By the way, it sounds like Sum 41's "Underclass Hero"
Underclass Hero

E|---------------------------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------------------------|
G|9-9-----------------------------------------------|
D|9-9-6h7p7-9-9-6h7p7------6h7p7----------|
A|7-7----------9-9----------7-7--------00-7----9|
E|--------------7-7----------5-5--------------77--|

My Song

E|-----------------------------------------------|
B|-----------------------------------------------|
G|7-7-------------------------------------------|
D|7-7-5p4h5-7-7-4h5p4-5-5-4h5~5-4-2|
A|5-5----------7-7----------5-5---------------|
E|--------------5-5----------3-3---------------|

Everything else is nothing like it. What should I do?
If it was EASY to play guitar , everyone would be like ME

I think you should keep it. The majority of people won't have heard that song and therefore won't notice.

Just keep it. Alots of people make mistakes like that. The important thing is that you made it you'rself without copying the other band. You can also change some partys or add.
#6
Keep it of course!
So what if it sounds like some other song by some other band?
It's predictable.

It's not that close to the Sum 41 riff, at least not close enough for most people to notice, especially if it's just a small part in your song

Keep it, it sounds cool

Yeah I do that sometimes. But it's not a big deal. After all, it's how Smells Like Teen Spirit was created (Cobain later realised he was playing something like More Than A Feeling).

You can always change it a little if it bothers you.
I play by my own rules. And I have one rule; There are no rules... but if there are, they're there to be broken. Even this one.

Confused? Good.
