I need help with my music theory homework. My teacher told us to write down scales for c major and g major but then she made it so vague that it was impossible too understand. The assignment says C Major D(Cb), G Major (A#). I think I understand the second one but can someone shed some light for me? Thanks.
#2
That makes no sense...G isn't A# and the major scale doesn't have A # in it so like, what???

The G major scale is G, A, B, C, D, E, F#, G

and C major I've not yet learned, but if I'm not mistaken it has 7 sharps.

I'm just taking music thoery myself.

You are mistaken. C Major is

C D E F G A B C

No sharps, no flats. Sorry OP, I don't know what your teacher is talking about either.

C major has no sharps or flats.

To TS, that assignment makes as much sense to me as it does to you. There isn't any Cb in C major and there isn't any A# in G major. The only thing I can think of tht that would mean would be a chord chart for a guitar with a capo marking, but that couldn't be it because it's music theory in general. Call someone in your class and see if they understand it.

I suppose she meant to write down scales like the whole-note scale, arabic, pentatonic, etc. if the piece is done in C.

She was somewhate vague.
#9
In Cb, there are seven flats. It's the exact same thing as a B scale, just written differently.

EDIT: After reading your post again, I realized that I had no idea of what you were talking about, and that your teacher must be retarded.

Lmao, I just gotta sig this.

I don't think his teacher is retarded, I think he just didn't understand or listen properly.
But ye, What everyone above said. use the circle of filths or the tetrachord to figure out which notes are sharpened or flattened in a major scale, if you don't wanna learn them all and memorise em.

I think your teacher wanted you to write out all the major scales like A Major, then B major, C Major etc because each one has different notes/different amount of notes flattened/sharpened.

I just started theory this year about three days in though so I can't be of much help.

We're going with WWH steps when making scales, I don't know what scale that is though.

If that's what your doing just count up two whole steps and a half step. If not then please ignore my post for being a noob with this.

WWH are the intervals of a tetrachord.

The C major scale for example, consists of two tetrachords joined by a Whole tone.

So It will be:

W-W-H-W-W-W-H

So in key of C:

C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C

Watch your words, it's easy to confuse ppl who are new to theory.

That's the first 4 notes of a Major scale, not all scales. The Spanish/Jewish scale has the flat 2nd so it's not WWH for example.

Wow. No offense, but it's just really funny, because C Major is the exact opposite of what you said

C Major has no sharps or flats
