I need some post hardcore/screamo/prog recommendations. A friend of mine wants to start a band

I'm becoming a huge fan of the genre. Here is what's currently on my playlist

At the Drive-In
Glassjaw
City of Caterpillar
As Cities Burn
On the Might of Princes
Pg. 99
Silent Drive
Sunny Day Real Estate
Wow Owls!

And please do not recommend me Underoath or something like that. Don't want to hear it

Recs from Regs preferred

Listen to Circle Takes The Square much? Methinks you should. All of those bands you listed though are great.

Also,

Envy
Ampere
Funeral Diner
Comadre

Here is a more local band from British Columbia, Canada. I think they are pretty good, and you might like them.

Sorry if you have all those, haha.

I've been really big on Drive Like Jehu lately.

Oh yeah and These Arms Are Snakes are really cool. They have some former Botch members.
#5
Bear Vs. Shark, Clair De Lune, Q and Not U.

I don't mean to steal your thread, but what are some good early noise esque post hardcore bands similar to Drive Like Jehu? Or possibly even Jawbox?

I haven't had the chance to listen yet, but Hot Snakes is former DLJ members.

And for similar to City of Caterpillar, try out Funeral Diner. The Underdark was a classic.

our rythym guitarist made up the best rap ever. makes fun of the "milkshake song"

my breakdowns bring all the crews to the pit
and theyre like, "lets dance to this ****!"
damn right, we dance to this ****
I 2 step, windmill and spinkick.

Disco......nice job taking ALL of mine, and adding more, ha. How much do you like Sailboats though, honestly, is Behind Trees amazing, or just average for you?

Sailboats were great. Check out Loma Prieta and Horror City because they share ex-members of Sailboats.

ah, ok, sweet. It's such a sad story for Sailboats, if they made more than just that one demo, they could've been So AMAZING. But yeah ill check those two out.

The Spirit Of Versailles
The Khayembii Communique
both of these have high pitched screams. The Khayembii Communique reminds me of Alexisonfire at times because of their singer.
both easy to get into.

Die, Emperor! Die!
Fire Team Charlie
A Silhouette
Toru Okada
Damezumari
Make Me
What Price, Wonderland? (formerly Snowman)
Ladders
"twinkly emo" if youre into that sorta thing. first four bands are from tx.

I Have Dreams
Five Fingers Half A Hand
Noisy Sins Of The Insect
harsh yet melodic

Dear Diary I Seem To Be Dead
Dot Flash Line
Robots Don't Cry
Darkness That Brings The Choking Heat
Open Letters
Choke Their Rivers With Our Dead
Dispensing Of False Halos
Kwakiutl Cannibal Society
Arroyo Secco
Non Toccate Miranda
My Life With The Spaniard
Yuriko
sorta obscure bands that don't get enough love.

lastly, i'd recommend Suis La Lune and Dawn Treader to everyone. Dawn Treader play some kick ass music with beautiful crescendos thrown in. Suis La Lune are just making the best music in the genre right now.

Don't worry it will come. Hopefully there will be a song that can actually top Non-Objective Portrait of Karma, because that's one of my favorite songs right now. The build-up part is incredible.

Thrice!!

They pwn all!!!!

Listen to the albums:
Illusion of Safety
Identity Crisis
The Artist in the Ambulance....

After that they've gone all proggy n experimental with Vheissu and their upcoming new album...

Another great post-hardcore band is At the Drive-In.
#34
Call me crazy but i really like a few tracks from dance gavin dance...try lemon meringue tie
Beauty Supreme

Yeah you were right about me
#35
I would say Thrice, but I think most people in this forum would abuse them as too poppy. I don't have much to recommend that other people haven't already said , but I'll list them anyway...

The Blood Brothers
Drive Like Jehu
Quicksand
Rival Schools
At The Drive-In
There is poetry in despair.
