Well, I wanted to make this thread, because I was just listening to Ton Koopman's rendition of this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pY08e_tdtA
Honestly, when I listen to that piece, I always think of when Mozart said the the Organ is "The King" of musical instruments, and sometimes when listening to the Organ, other instruments, even the one I play, can just seem almost puny at times.

What about you guys?

Maybe because the pipes on that organ take up the whole ****ing wall.

I don't know, to tell you the truth. I've had some songs that hit me hard, but they lose their touch. I think a truly powerful song would keep its luster, no matter how much times you've listened to it.

I'd go with "altitudes" by Jason Becker.
Not only is it an amazing piece of music, but knowing what would happen to him later in life, the fact that he just keeps composing music, is pretty f***ing cool.

man, pipe organs are so kickass. i was in a huge church in france and they had this pipe organ with MASSIVE pipes all over the place... it sounded so amazing when it was played. i love that instrument.... it just sounds so badass.

not to mention the fact that tocatta and fugue is awesome in itself...

i realize how cliche it is and how people will tell me i'm a moron, but "Stairway to Heaven" has gotten me every time. And yes, I know that Zeppelin themselves regret ever writing the song, but I love it. That was one of the songs that got me to want to play guitar. I just love the ending after the solo. There's just so much emotion I feel from it. Timeless to me. Ah well, just dont pick on me too much for voicing my opinion.

the first time i listened to "acid rain" fron dream theater it changed my perspection of guitars.... it really touched me
#12
All of these have to be mentioned for me:

1) Mayonaise- Smashing Pumpkins
2) Adagio For Strings -Samuel Barber
3) Beethoven...everything
4) Hope- Alex Lifeson (well, Rush...but it's just him on acoustic guitar so...)
5) U2- The entire Joshua Tree album

EDIT: And I fail to see what would be wrong with finding Stairway touching.

"Carpe"- Russian Circles

That comes to mind first and foremost. I still haven't sound a song that has captivated me the same way that one has.

It has its heavier parts, but it's not exactly metal. Kind of a post rock/post metal/experimental/sheer awesomeness type of thing.

Jesus Chirst, that thing's huge. Imagine how awesome it would be to sit there and play that beast. Damn.

One Winged Angel has always had a way with making me feel small and moreso like an unworthy composer. And after the damn metal version the song made me feel like a horrible guitarist.

As for making my instruments sound insignicant Trocadero always has its way with me. They have a guitarist they use occasionally but the baritone guitar is just amazing when combined with the keyboard.
The person below me is probably a homosexual.
