I've got about 2 months to import things from america tax free, and without having to deal with customs etc. I think I'll be able to earn $1000 tops in this time, and I'm looking for a good metal amp head.

Metal in the styles of: Metallica, Children of Bodom, but also rock such as Creed and Disturbed. Decent cleans are important too but not the main focus.

If you had $1000 to spend on an amp head what would you buy considering my musical preferance? There are simply too many options to try them all, so please recommend me a few to limit my investigation to.

I'd suggest a Peavey 5150 or 6505 (they are the same thing) but the cleans are a bit crap. Don't know too much about american amps or prices, can you get a Mesa for that money?

I personally have never tried it but I've heard many good things about the Fender MH-500 Metalhead Amp head. I don't know if you are looking for a combo amp or a stack but this amp head sells for around $1000.00 so I'd go check it out.

i'd say 5150/6505 if you're willing to compromise a bit on the cleans, xxx if you aren't. also b52 and carvin are doubtless worth a look in the US, though I haven't tried them as they're rare over here... EDIT: mesa might be worth a look too, if any fall under budget.
I'm an idiot and I accidentally clicked the "Remove all subscriptions" button. If it seems like I'm ignoring you, I'm not, I'm just no longer subscribed to the thread. If you quote me or do the @user thing at me, hopefully it'll notify me through my notifications and I'll get back to you.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

I looked at mesas since they would probably be my first pick, but I would be very lucky if I could find even A 50 watt single rectifier for 1200. These things hardly lose any value;p

Ive also heard good things about the genz benz el diablo (999,00) and the Carvin V3 (999,00). The peavey XXX is 1250, and the 6505 is 1100 which might be doable.

yep, i like the el diablo, but it's very much a love/hate amp. a load of people hate it with a vengeance. so you'd really want to try that one (you obviously want to try everything you can, but especially in the case of amps which polarise opinion so much)...

That surprises me about the Mesa Single Recto . . . I was going to recommend that, as I can usually find the head on eBay for ~$800 to $1000.

Dude, go for a 19" Rack. I use one with an Engl E530 Modern Rock Pre-Amp and a Mesa Boogie 50-50 PowerAmp. Engl is like the european counterpart of Mesa, (at least....that's what I've been told). And this combination rocks as hell. Bought mine via an online auction site, phoned the owner and bought it for €1050. Including 19" BSK case.
