All,
Back in early ninties I had a Squire Guitar and Marshall amp. I sold these to purchase the Visual Basic 3 computer programming language which has gotten me to where I am today. Now I've got 3 boys, 14, 12, and 9 and I would like to purchase another guitar and start to learn again.

My budget is $1000-$1200 total for guitar/amp/case/accessories

The music I like to listen to are Judas Priest, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Nightwish, Manowar, Black Sabbath, Scorpions, Megadeth, AC/DC, Accept, Dokken, Pantera, Slayer, Septultura.

I've done some research and right now I've really like the Schecter Hellraiser C-1 FR - The local guitar center has the Black Cherry in stock and I like it's sound and features. I compared it to some compariable model's with pretty much the same features. One was the Kirk Hammett ESP KH-602

KH-602($950) vs Hellraiser C-1 FR($800)
Construction: Neck-Thru-Body vs. Set-Nect w/Ultra Access
Scale: Same 25.5”
Body: Alder vs. Mahogany w/ Quilted Maple Top
Neck: 3 Pc. Maple vs. 3-pc. Mahogany
Fingerboard: Same Rosewood
Frets: Same 24 X-Jumbo
Binding: None vs. Abalone
Tuners: ESP-LTD vs. Grover
Bridge: Floyd Rose vs. Original Floyd Rose Tremolo System
Pickups: EMG 81 Active Set vs. EMG active 81/85
Electronics: Same Vol/Vol/Tone/3-Way switch

I was looking at getting the Line 6 Spider III amp and after reading reviews and speaking with friends who play and the knowledgable folks at guitar center I’ve looked at some other amps.
I've now been looking at the VOX AD30VT at the store. It's about $250.
Question I have is there are some other VOX's, the AD30VT-XL and AD15VT-XL. The 15XL is the same price as the AD30VT and the 30XL is $50 more.
But someone has mentioned the Roland. I’ve not been back to the store yet so I figured I can get some information here first.

You can see the music I listen too above and this is what I plan on playing.

What's the difference between these models, Roland and VOX?

What’s the difference between the non XL and XL VOX?

Is the XL the better choice in the VOX?

You definitely want to at least spend half of your cash on the amp.

^I'd let a pro look at it. Once you get into the technicalities of screws...well, it's just a place you don't want to be, friend.

^ Visual Basic is the native language of Microsoftonians.

Typical Watercooler conversation for a Microsoftonian:
Public function Gossip (intEmployees) as string
Select Case intEmployees
case 1
Gossip ="Hmmm... Did I forget to turn the oven off before I left? Great... knowing my wife, the whole house is probably a blazing inferno"
case 2
Gossip = Hey, did you see last night's episode of """ & "Lost" & """" & "?" & vbcr _
& "Yeah it sucked."
Case 3
Gossip = "Let's all get drunk and chuck Xboxes at the CSRs!"
Case 4
Gossip = "Did you guys hear what happened to Ted? Yeah, he left and joined a Unix based company. He Blue Screened three days before his first day." & vbcr _
& "Ohh my god..." & vbcr _
& "Tragic, he had a wife and kids..." & vbcr _
& "He still owes me $50"
Case Else 'Bill Gates
Gossip = "I wonder how much it costs to buyout heaven..."
end select
end function

As Bazilisck311 stated it's a programming language I used back in the early ninities and it got me to where I am today. Now I do C#, another more advanced programming language.

But, that's not the focus.
The guitar and amp I'm looking to purchase this weekend possibly

If you are just playing at home and want the best possible sound get a 5 watt tube combo, like a Palamino, a distortion pedal and a decent guitar. I would suggest a hard tail instead of a Licensed Floyd Rose. If you need a Floyd get the Original.
