Is there any way/program that allows me to turn down the guitar tracks in songs so I can play along without the guitar sound, but with drums, vox and bass etc.
Thanks in advance.

I thought this was a dirty thread

Well, some songs have it so the guitar is panned to the left and bass to the right. You can use Adobe Audition or similar programmes to have it play on the left or right channel. Not many songs are like that though.

There's no way you can do that, the tracks are mixed in two channels so unless the guitar is alone and only on the left or right you can't. Best bet is too look for midi backing tracks.

You mean like a backing track?
I've heard that it's possible, but pretty difficult to do right, and not every track can be changed like that.

This is a matter of turning down the volume of the guitar by eliminating certain frequencies, which is extremely hard, and not at all possible for the average joe. Check out the Line 6 Guitar Port software, as they did this to a lot of songs so that people could play the lead lines in Hendrix tunes etc. I think that even part of the video stuff on there features how they sat down having a struggle removing the lead guitars from songs.

The problem is that just like drums are submixed, the final mix into stereo removes the possibility to mix the volum of an individual track, seeing that there are only 2 tracks in the end. You will need advanced equipment, and serious skills at this, to be able to remove a guitar from a finalized mix.

I'm pretty sure it would be much easier just to look for a backing track. On the other hand adobe audition allows you to take out vocals..i;m not sure if it works for guitars..

Quick, someone start a thread about the best songs to strip to

Torrent sites are good for backing tracks. There are a few places with torrents for proper backing tracks, not just midi renditions without a guitar track.

Which places are those?
