I've recently discovered the joys of waking the whole house bashing the same four powerchords over and over again. I'm playing some clash, sex pistols, green day and other intellectual masterpieces. Fun stuff to play standing on my amp. I was thinking it might be fun to get something really cheap with a simple hardtail Bridge, single bridge P90, a volume nob (not that I'd ever turn it down) and a tone nob if we're going to go really fancy here. Needs to be able to make some nasty punk noises and really take a beating.

I was thinking maybe a an epi LP jr with a few mods, but I think a lot of them are made out or plywood, or particle board, cardboard or something like that. Are the '57 re-issues decent wood?

I was also thinking maybe an Epi LP Goldtop, cos I can probably order one of those straight from China for cheap, but it looks a little nice for my requirements.

Who else is making cheap slabs of mahogany with P90s?

This looks nice, but it sells for around $500. The SE's are quality intruments and worth the price, in my opinion.

The 57 Reissue Les Paul Junior is a great suggestion. In fact, the only thing that is a downside is that the finish is a bit thick. Obviously, if you plan on thrashing out some punk, I trust that you can wear through that with a bit of effort haha.

Also, what is it with companies using P100's? Rip that off and wack on a sexy P90, hum be damned.

I've been thinking about doing the same thing for a long time haha. Oh and The Clash > Sex Pistols and Greenday haha. Oh, you have to play some Buzzcocks too

The '57 Reissue is solid mahogany. It's pretty tempting.

The Australian RRP on a '57 Re-issue is about the same as the Epi goldtop. I can probably get one for $500Au, still a little pricey.

I found some Gibson SG juniors on Ebay, a whole bunch more expensive, but I could probably get one for a thousand further down the track as a punk guitar.

I had an Epi Les paul junior 57 reissue, it was really nice tone but I just didn't use it enough and after a while it just sat in the corner of my room taking up space. Fantastic punk tones, in fact I wish I had it again now but it wasn't to be.

^Very nice MrCarrot, I haven't managed to turn up an SE1 in Australia yet. I'm hunting around now. I could get an MIJ local issue Epiphone les paul junior direct from Japan too, there's some good deals going around.

Hey I've even got a job again now, 7AM to 3PM with lots of opportunities for weekends and overtime. I could be working 14 hour days 6 days a week. Suddenly a couple of new guitars and a new amp are looking like an option.

If you can get an MIJ LP Jr, jump on it! Nao. Anything from Japan ftw. Except anything....unpleasant.

Well, you keep talking about the AU price, so don't know how the ones I'm about to suggest will be of help to you....

First off, Gibson SG Jr. Not exactly cheap, but would definately give you what you want.

Uh, well, there's this. Not sure of the body wood, but most of the Harmony Central reviews have been positive. Going for under $200 US.

Japanese listings on American Ebay

A little out of my range at the moment, I could have another MIM Fender for that price. Very tasty though.
