Opinion and preference. This is the most broad question I've ever seen around here.

Sex, pizza, the smell of fresh washing and slap bass.

Actives have a broader range and an EQ, not just a tone knob in most cases. And the fact that Flea uses Bartolini pickups in his bass makes those desirable. Humbuckers are really fat sounding, P's are very punchy sounding, Jazz pickups are smoother and have a small bit of growl to them.

So mostly, the type of pickups u use is by how u wanna sound.

Bartolini EH hmmmm. What do you mean by punchy....like a flea pop and slap type thing or what?

Flea uses Lane Poor pickups BTW. And again, pickups are a matter of style and taste.

I've used P's and a P & J combo. But compared to most instruments mine are low line type.
