I've been playing on a Epiphone Les Paul II for about a year now, it's like a cheaper version of of the standard LPs and such. It's not that great seeing it is a beginner guitar and all. Not too long ago my dad bought me a Fender Strat and it's been pretty good on me.

I usually play metal music, and these two dont seem to cut it anymore. I'm in the process of buyin a new guitar, but kind of stumped what to get when theres all kinds I can choose. Price isnt really a factor right now, as long as theyre not over about $1000 canadian.

I've had my eye on the Epiphone Zakk Wylde Les Paul, seeing as it looks great and i've heard pretty good things about it like the playability and tone and such. I'm most likely getting this, unless I find something better. I was thinking of maybe an Ibanez, but wasn't too sure which would be a better choice. I'm pretty used to the feel of a strat, so something not too different would be good, maybe a little smaller frets.

Would getting the Les Paul be a good choice for mostly metal playing? Other then that, also is it a good choice for playability like the fret size and all?

What amp do you have?

Anyway, the Epi Zakk Wylde isn't a good choice, as it has EMG-HZs, which aren't active, but are really crappy. I would go with an Ibanez RG1570 or an S520EX, both awesome guitars with great trems, but the pickups are somewhat lacking (as with most Ibanez stock pickups).

But, of course, if your amp sucks, it doesn't make much of a difference what guitar or pickups you have.

Alexi Laiho uses HZs and his tone is great.

What amp are you using?

These ESPs look sweeet. I really like the white ones too, I guess i just really like white, it sticks out :p

the ec1000 in white is the same price than the zakk wylde epi and is much better. thinner neck, better pickups, more frets, locking tuners, better electronics, nice looks (maybe the zakk wins in this, but the eclipses look good as well) and higher quality wood

Idnovelo, he said he liked the Strat feel, which you won't find on a single-cutaway guitar. He also said he was thinking of Ibanez, but didn't know what kind, so I gave him some choices.
I also choose not to recommend gear I haven't tried personally, rather than jumping on the bandwagon (I'm not saying you are, just saying that I don't) and suggesting stuff other people said was good.

I do like the look of the MH-400, the only reason I didn't mention it is because I have never tried it.

I'm going to ask you to please not tell people to ignore someone simply because you don't agree with him/her. The guy asked for opinions, and I gave him mine, as I had every right to. It's his choice who to listen to.

But seriously, I don't know about metal guitars. If I was you, I'd go to the guitar store, and try everything, because we can't tell you what feels good and sounds good to you.

These words are all you need to know about Metal Guitars:

Mahogany
Alder
EMG

Then, just narrow it down based on taste, and materials.

Because you totally took that post the wrong way. How many people do you know who think of DiMarzio when you say "metal guitar?"

EMGs are the most common pup for metal out there, and thus are associated with metal more than DiMarzio or SD, which is what I was getting at.

ok well you made it sound as if emg's where the only pickups out there for metal.
and to the guy who recomended a schecter, i would try one out. A lot of people love schecters but i've tried a few and all of them i really didn't like.
