I need you guys to help me in relation to improvisation.

You see im doing a music course which requires knowledge of improvisation (i play bass), and i was wondering what theory i would NEED to know, and what theory would help.

thanks.

EDIT: i know nothing about any theory.

Theory? Uhh, you don't really need to know theory to improvise, unless you wanna get into advanced stuff. But if you're just looking for an easy jam, just play in key. Learn your major and minor scales.

+1 just learn major + minor and then find out the key, play the scale starting on the root note, then if you want, learn the different patterns for the scales.
