Hi people. I have tried to set up Wi-Fi for my DS, with a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector that I have installed with the CD. However, when I turn on the DS, it does work with it, but during a connection test, it says that it is unable to obtain my IP address. Could anyone please help me as to how I could get the Wi-Fi to work properly? Thanks in advance.

Well I've found out that the IP is wrong for the Wi-Fi. Does anyone know how I can change it? And thanks Smokey, I'll have a look on the DS site.

Don't turn your firewall off :/ thats just dumb.

Does your home wifi use any encryption (e.g. WEP, WPA)? If so, make sure you have the right key entered in. Also, I don't think DS supports WPA yet, so you'll have to use WEP which is about as bad as using nothing at all.

You shouldn't need to manually set the IP address, it should be obtained automatically. How is your network setup? Do you have a way to gauge your signal strength on the DS?

Well it's a USB plugged into the computer. And yeah, if the DS is in a certain place, it's signal strength is stronger. I don't know why it still says that the IP can't be obtained though.

Is the Wi-Fi on your DS activated?
Is your internet connection enabled?

Yeah, it's just when I check the settings, the IP address and Subnet mask are different.

Alright people, I've figured out the problem. This USB belongs to another UGer, and the IP and subnet mask on it belong to him. Does anyone know how I could reset it somehow?

I keep mine off because of the settings my brother setup for our network.
its like having a firewall turned on but without all the blocking and problems...

Anyways yea you have to change your encryption settings though your network.
Thats what did it for me.

Normally there should be something in the software that does it.

But the IP address should be dynamically allocated, regardless of who used it, so i can't see why your DS is throwing a hissy fit.

by the way, do you use AOL? since the software blocks WIFI dongles.

Nah, I use Telewest broadband. And it's the Wi-Fi itself, not the DS.
