Tortoise shell has always been my favorite pickguard. It works well with pretty much every color fender offers for their guitars and basses.

I think the American Deluxe basses have excellent pick guards. That second pick guard isn't white; it's mint. I think it suits the bass quite well for that modern Fender look.

However, the first pick guard makes the bass look like a modern take on the '65 Jazz Bass. I think the '65 is a nice looking bass, but at the same time, it's a different looking bass.

Basically, what are you going for? Are you in a modern band, or are you playing old-school stuff?

I was looking at a used Warwick Vampyre LTD 5'er for about $200. I went home to grab my wallet and came back and some jerk with an epic beard got it already..

wow, whats with the white trim around the tortise shell.... kinda ruins the look. Honestly when it comes to sunburst or whatever colour that is im all for the black pickguard

And where is the poll?

I would usually say tort, but for this bass, white (or mint) is far superior.

How much did you pay for the tortoise pickguard? You know the stock Fender one is at least $85, right?

I like the mint in this case, that's just me though. I love the tortoise, too. The mint still pwn3d it by a long shot, in my opinion.

White.

I would only go with tortoise if my body was white. Other than that I think there they ugliest style around.

I much prefer the tort, but obviously it's amatter of opinion, this needs to be taken to the polls

Well unlike Deliriumbassist, I don't confess a violent adversion to the tort, but I think the mint looks better. Very old school looking and cool in a retro kinda of way. Tort's look good on most basses, but in this case the mint just looks better.

i paid like 45$ from basspartsresource.com, but their site is f**ked up now for
some reason.. maybe maintenance.. they claimed its genuine fender so
i guess it is..

I've seen soo many vintage fender jazz basses with sunburst and tortoise
pickguard. When the word "vintage fender"comes up, that is what I picture
in my mind. Almost like a stereotype. So I thought they go perfectly together
but I guess not.. and yea i should have made this as a vote i didn't know the
replies are gonna be this much evened out. I still don't know what to do and
I love both..

Am I really that violent, Tam?

We'll just say that I have an extreme displeasure towards the totoiseshell, then

Ok how about uber extreme, using NYC adjectives distaste for tort then?

And nah, Ben you're cool, no worries!
#34
for some reason the tort just makes me think like classy or like Jaco for some reason.
#35
i like the white on the sunburst. why are you wearing your bass so low though? that's terrible for efficiancy and such.
Too cool for a signature.
