When am playing down the neck i.e. towards the headstock, i play a fret, then i pick the next fret even before ive moved the previous finger out of the way. How can i sort thios problem out, its just fractions of a second thats making my music sound bad.

start it out playing a little slower this trains ure brain and ure fingers to get out of the way and eventually ull et used to it and u can increase ure speed that way

It's a very common problem for beginners who are trying to play faster than they really can. SLOW DOWN and build up speed gradually, with a metronome, you'll get to where you want to be eventually.
