Since I was too beat yesterday from spending 6 hours in the hospital I didnt type this out.

But what happened was I was just sitting in school and I started getting chest pains. So when we got out for lunch I walked to the medical clinic very uncomfortably as the pain seemed to intensify as I walked. I waited half an hour, and talked to a doctor and he recommended I get a chest xray. I went home and finished my lunch and phoned my mom and she took me to emergency.

We spent about an hour waiting and then I got a bed. I had a couple of doctors check me out over the course of 90 minutes and then they sent me for a chest xray. About 30 minutes later I saw the xrays and talked to a respiratory specialist. He told my mom and I what was up.

Spontaneous Pneumothorax.

Basically a cyst on my lung spontaneously burst causing approx 1/4 of my left lung to collapse. The air from my lung gets stuck in the pluera membrame, which surrounds the lung and I feel like there is all this pressure on my left side. Not fun. The doctors say this is most common is tall, thin, young males. Worst case scenario: I get surgery to remove any cysts on my lungs (which apparently everyone is born with). Second worst case scenario: A cathoder goes into my side to drain the air from the pleura membrame.

Then I get to breathe 100% oxygen for 3 hours to see if it will help. I am now really good at iPod Solitaire. After the 3 hours was up I got another chest xray and they found out it didnt get worse and it didnt get better. The doctor told me to just take it easy for a couple days to let it heal and check back up at the hospital the next day. No heavy lifting or sports for the next 2 weeks. No airplane rides for 6 weeks. Oh, and I can never scuba dive. Ever. Not that I wanted to.

So that was basically my day yesterday and now Im home from school all day today. Still have some chest pains but I should be fine. My mom was worried a lot but I guess that's her job.

*Update*

So on thursday I got my fourth xray and after 3 hours of waiting I find out that it hasnt gotten any better or worse. That means on Friday I have an appointment with a thoracic surgeon named James Bond, no joke. I find out I need to get arthroscopic surgery on my lung, which is happening on Monday. Its minimally invasive, so there will be 3 small incisions on my side. A small camera goes in there and they scar my lung and use very small stainless steel staples to make sure it wont collapse again.

So today is Sunday and Im back from stocking up on books at the bookstore since I have to be at the hospital at 8am Monday and I'll be staying overnight and most likely released Tuesday evening. I get to miss another week of school and a month of work minimum. I'll also get to be on painkillers for the first time in my life. Exciting.

I'm just getting a bunch of movies, books, and video games ready right now since I'll probably be off my feet for a while. Oh, and on top of never scuba diving, I can never be a commercial airline pilot. Again, not a disappointment.

That sentence made me sit up.

That blows, man. I have something like that every now and then when the pleura membrane acts up, I think it's probably related to your thing, if not the same. It's nothing I've ever had to go to the emergency room for (well, once but it turned out no big deal). That gets me worried, though. Maybe there's a few cysts in me waiting to explode...

I'm not. He's still fine with it (as far as I'm aware).
It's just like saying to me it's a shame you'll never be a professional dancer or mucisian, because it's an awesome career. I don't really mind cos I have the wrong body to be a dancer and I know I'll never make it into the music business.

Ok fair enough but it seemed kinda heartless to bring up how much you love scuba-diving simply because he's not able to.

he did mention he never wanted to scuba dive.
I hope you have a speedy recovery, don't try to do any sports or anything, it'll make it worse.

Dude your your fuking lucky! Its happened to me TWICE! and the second time my lung collapsed completely! I was in hospital for 10 days just 2 months ago, I had to get a plurectomy(basically they cut my ribcage open and fixed me). Wow that sucks. But they told me it will probably happen again, its just so unpredictable. And then I'd probably have to get surgery.

I get chest pains all the time. It feels like i got a knife stuck in my lung and i can cant breath that well because i feel like part of my lung is blocked by that red-hot knife. A good thump to the chest sorts it out.

Get well son man i've had pnemonia and my lungs killed so i guess its somewhere similar to Pneumothorax.
