Set-in Neck, Bolt-on Neck or Neck-Thru?
Which one do you prefer and why?

I personally prefer set necks that are neck-thru. I love a good AANJ on a lot of guitars.

According to some guitar builders, there is no sonic difference between the two methods contrary to what you hear from people. That being said I think I would rather have a neck thru or at least a bolt on with a contoured heel. I own a Fender Strat and love it but can't stand the big block o' wood where the neck and body meet. I guess that is one thing Ibanez does right. I suppose the heel is there even on Gibson Les Pauls and PRS guitars as well. I guess if I had a choice between a bolt on and a glued in set neck I would choose a bolt on if the heel is contoured.

the bolt on has 4 screws on the back to join the neck, and normaly a plate of metal

the set neck has glue, so its a bit less disturbing and has more sustain. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/document?cpd=0OEY&doc_id=99371&base_pid=517536&index=2

the neck trough(best one) has the nech joint inside the body, so it has the best upper frets reach and sustain, as it if was a single piece of wood
(btw, cant find pics )

also, there are som bolt on necks that have this "contoured neck joint". while it still uses the screws, it has the back in this curve shape that gives neck trough-like feeling

I'm not talking about the feel of the neck, I am talking about sound transfer. I prefer the feel of a satin or unfinished bolt on neck
