Before

After

Okay, not much off a mod, and you can see the tape. But I kept hitting the switch and accidently selecting the neck position. I also had no use for two volumes and tones, so I made them both masters. The third knob is a "dummy" knob.

You're a jerk.

Well it's better than a hole and I can't think of anything I'd like there. I only want one volume and one tone

Stick a shiny quarter or something over the old switch hole.

I don't care much how my guitars look, as long as I like how they play, it's all that matters.

id wire two more toggles. a killswitch in the old toggle position, so when its down the guitar is on, up volume is cut. second toggle is in place of the dummy knob. do a black ice overdrive mod, or one of www.guitarfetish.com active preamps.
#18
Nice mod, reminds me of what buckethead did to his LP. Separate volume controls for each pickup always seemed a bit silly to me.

I like it Jamie. Tell anyone who rags on you about it to piss off. If it works for you, that's all that really matters.

The tape works okay for now. Maybe later you'll come up with an interesting idea for a way to dress that area up.

personally i would have just kept the two volume controls and not bothered with a tone control. I don't see why you couldn't have just used the existing control as a tone anyway and had 2 volumes? seems silly to go to the extra effort for LESS control without even any visual enhancement.

Put a kill switch instead of the dummy coil, it will be like Buckethead's Les Paul.

All I like is what I need.. A volume (I hardly even need that, it's either 0 or 10), A tone and a switch that's not in the way of my weird strumming area (almost on the fretboard). I like it, for now.

Change the dummy pot to a varitone switch.

Maybe use the redundant knob for some sort of preamp or booster? Built-in boosters are cool.

By the way, you should learn to use the volume knob, to switch between rhythm/lead parts and clean/overdriven sounds.

Surely that would depend on the kinda music one plays. For what I play, I use 3 different dirt pedals and my amp's dirt too. I've never had a reason to not have it on 10.

i like that kill switch idea someone had

also, to cover up the whole in the top, you could put llike a toy skull thing or something over it so you cant see....

Cut a piece of pick guard material the same size and shape as the selector ring? It's a good idea, but it just needs a little polishing.
#31
I'd just put a switch thats unwired where the old one was, and keep the dummy pot too.

Its great, I left a redundant pot in my bass, because I messed up the wiring while building it.

Someone tells me to turn down, so I turn down the unwired pot, and they think i've gone quieter, its great.

I guess if you have a dummy pickup selector in the old position too, you can flick that when someone complains about your tone
#32
i say you put a carriage bolt (the kind with the round dome head on it if you didnt know what a carriage bolt it) in the hole where the selector used to be. then you would just have a round nickel spot on it

I think that's a great idea. Most people would just get frustrated at accidentally hitting switches, you did something about it, props to you. the bit of tape is fine, maybe later when you have time you could fill it, or have a push-pull killswitch where the toggle originally was, then it has a function but wont accidentally be hit.
