I could probably out play my last guitar teacher.
Though, he probably knows more theory than I do.

Of course it counts.

Then yes I have totally surpased every teacher I have ever had of any kind and even a few random chicks, why you ask?

They got in my way...

hah^ mine too. although i bet in about 20 years i could get to his level now... wait a minute... then he would have noter 20 years of XP. god... he can level up so fast. like he grinds while i am doing quests to find my picks and amp.

Yes, i'm proud to say that I have passed my old guitar teacher in skill. However, I'll admit that my friend who has been playing 3 years less than me still rapes me in the soloing department. He's like Eddie V. but chubby. It's really quite the spectacle.

My first guitar teacher sucked, he had been playing since 1964, and all he knew how to do was name chords and crap. He knew no modern techiniques such as sweeping, palm muting, tapping, legato, etc. Within 5 months of leaving that place and self teaching my self, I surpassed him on a techinical level for sure.

i suprass my teacher in every aspect in theory and techniques i been playing for 3 years right now and i found myself i a very high lelev in guitar skills i even upload a rusty cooley cover of under the influence but still i hang out with him a drink beer lol
#16
I remember after like my 4th year of playing I decided my theory really sucked and I wanted to go to lessons to get it better but I'd never been to lessons before so I decided to go into a couple and try it out and out of the 2 guys I tried I was really unimpressed and although I never tried head to head, I'm pretty sure I was better than both of them.
#17
i'm better than the person who inspired me and all five guitar instructors i had.

He sure thinks so.

But, then again, my uncle taught me.

While it DID take me a while to do so, he isn't the GREATEST guitarist on the planet.

He taught me basic chords, basic riffs, got me into good music, and I took the reins from there.

I learned how to read tab, and I gained a good bit of skill shortly there after.

He's constantly saying I've surpassed him in every way, but I like his improv skills better. He's a 100% acoustic man now, and he loves playing around in the pentatonic scale, and makes some catchy (however generic) bluesy solos.

I can't solo that well, really. But, if he says I've surpassed him, I guess I'll agree.

Because god forbid someone doesn't like sweeping or tapping.

I think sweeps sound ghey.

teachers should at least know, if not play, popular techniques with the guitar.

the thing about most kids under 16 is they dont understand what playing in time means, how to play in the confines of a band and how to play for more than 2 minutes without losing their attention span. Most kids just want to show off as much as possible..if they went to a real band and tried to fit in they would be like fk off.

Tappings not hard at all unless you are doing some really complex stuff.

Different teachers teach different things. His teacher was obviously "old school" and thus his potential students should reflect that.

No.

Then again, my personal instructor has a PhD. in Jazz Performance (Guitar)...

He blew my freaking mind the first time I saw him play.

i THOUGHT i beat my teacher
turns out hes a guitar god, just been hiding it from me this whole time.

My guitar teacher mainly plays blues, bluegrassy stuff, country and rootsy stuff, and he tells me I'm better than him at shreddy stuff. I'm shit though, so I'm probably not.

My specialist teacher? No, he's a classical guitarist, i'm not actually worth getting lessons from him (well I am now because I actually like it but I never used to be) but I would say we're both decent drummers, he teachers me drums as well, and I'm a better pianist than him (but he doens't play piano ,) and I'm a better singer.

I'm one of those creative people who can write stuff harder than they can actually play, as in I wrote this song but if he had've handed me the music i would've told him to shove it because I wouldn't be able to play it, but because I wrote it I can. It's good fun, keeps things interesting.

Well i beat my first one after about a year or less. She taught me all the basics but refused to teach my scales. She also didn't know what a powerchord was. My new teacher is a total library of knowledge, teaches me more than just guitar. He's been showing me how valve amps work. Its fascinating

Um I can play faster and tap n sweep and all that better than my teacher, but hes not really into that stuff, he owns me in theory though
HI

Depends on what skill level your talking about.
Ive become better than my tutor at a technical level, but he knows so much more theory than me and his improv is amazing.
